Julia Gillard is coming to Yirrkala on wednesday ... wowzers

Rio Tinto (the mine operation)  has signed another 40 year lease and so is paying out 700 million dollars to the traditional landowners - that is the Gumatj and Rirratingu Clans which works out at 18 million dollars a year ... makes you wonder how much Rio is making eh to afford such an expensive lease ... just small change for them ...

In anycase, Yirrkala has never looked so neat and tidy - the lawns have been mowed and whipper snipped
the rubbish removed and all I have to do is decide what to wear - ha ha.  We have been trying to get her to visit the Art Centre but she is here for all of a total of 2 hours so it is unlikely she will pop in.

I will endeavour to get a photo of the big event ... now all we need is Will and Kate to visit - royalty ha!
