we went to FNQ (far-north queensland) for a mini-break over easter -  mainly cairns where we got to see jane and rob - yippee - and port douglas  - where we got rained out ...

the port douglas scene is much orientated towards beach side / reef side recreation which of course is ruled out by torrential tropical rain ... so we would rush down to the cascading pools between these downpours and jumping in for a swim, which was fun ... it was still warm after all ...

 we took a walk into the jungle - tropical forest was very impressive and pretty

the kids got some culture ( another kind ) an exhibition of children's book illustrations in which jane's dad featured ....

while their daddy got some of his own kinda culture

i took the boys to the wildlife habitat and they got to feed the sweet little kangas 

 gourmet

for our last night in port douglas we splurged on the Sheraton Mirage Hotel where we were blown away by the eighties time warp - urgent phone call anyone? 

and the advanced light controls ....

it was total eighties decadent
